The New Extended Range Segway Batteries
Since its introduction to the tech world and transportation in 2001 the Segway PT has been used for everything from tourism to police patrols. The key feature for most people has been the battery range of the Segway. At the time of its creation, the batteries had a maximum range of 25 miles. But now we offer a battery that has an extended range of up to 40 miles! Here's everything you need to know about the new Segway battery.
As far as design, overall performance and compatibility, the updated Lithium-ion batteries are exactly the same as their predecessor. You won’t need an adapter for the new batteries nor will the software or hardware need an update. You can use the Segway you already have. You only need to replace your existing batteries and go! This is perfect for anyone who is wanting to improve their Segway’s capabilities without purchasing a new unit!
Here are a couple FAQ’s:
Do the extended-range batteries take longer to charge than the original?
The extended-range batteries only need 8 hours to go from no charge to a full 40 mile charge. Which is the same as the original battery.
Does the Segway lose any torque or power with the new batteries?
Your Segway will not lose any torque or power when you upgrade to the extended Segway battery.
Is there a similar lifespan of the extended-range Segway batteries?
The lifespan of a Segway battery is typically dependent on how the operator cares for the Segway. Keeping the battery charged and not letting the batteries sit unplugged for long periods of time is essential. It is also recommended that the Segway is stored in a climate controlled environment to avoid extreme heat and cold. With proper upkeep and care, there is no reason why the extended-range batteries should not last as long as the original.
What is the cost of these batteries?
We offer the extended-range Segway batteries for $1,099.
Is the battery’s hardware compatible with the older Segway technology?
The new batteries are compatible with Segway i2 & i2SE models as well as the X2 & X2SE models. These Lithium-ion batteries are also compatible for Gen 1 Segways that have had the software upgrade.
Have the new batteries been tried and tested?
Here at Segway of Tennessee we have used the extended-range batteries on our own fleet and have been very pleased with their performance and would wholeheartedly recommend anyone using their Segway for extended periods of time to consider upgrading.
How does the new long-range battery perform under extreme weather conditions, such as extreme heat or cold?
Similar to the original lithium-ion batteries, cold temperatures will affect the batteries some however you will still have an increased range compared to the older model.
What is the weight and physical size of the new battery compared to existing options?
When comparing the two options side by side they are virtually identical. The only difference is the hardware inside the battery’s casing.
If I only need to replace one battery, could I use one original battery and one extended-range Segway battery?
Yes, you can replace just one battery but you might consider the age of each battery as you upgrade. If your batteries are the same age they often need to be replaced about the same time.
The new Segway battery is a game-changer for those who want to go even further on their Segway. With a range of 40 miles, it's perfect for longer journeys and makes the Segway even more versatile than it already was. It's a great investment for anyone who uses a Segway regularly. So why not upgrade to the new Segway battery and enjoy the extended range today?
Three Tips to Keep Your Segway Batteries Lasting Longer
Three tips tip keep your Segway batteries lasting longer!
Segway PT Batteries
Segways are powered by two Lithium-ion batteries located under the base of the Segway. It takes a total of 8 hours to fully charge your Segway PT, and in prime condition, the Lithium-ion batteries have a range of up to 40 miles on a full charge. The batteries are essential to the function of the Segway unit, and with proper care, they can last for years. However, normal use and age on your Segway will affect its range over time. Replacing your Segway's batteries is one of the most expensive repairs. Luckily, there are several steps you can take to ensure a longer-lasting battery. Here are some tips to help prolong the life of your Segway batteries:
Keep your Segway plugged in and charged up
The most common reason for needing to replace a Segway's batteries is leaving the Segway unplugged for an extended period. We recommend keeping your Segway plugged into the charger anytime you are not using it. By continuing to charge your Segway after every use, you will avoid any possibility of your Segway batteries dying. You will know that your Segway is fully charged when the two LED lights are blinking green. *You cannot overcharge your Segway by keeping it plugged in.
2. Keep your Segway in a Heated and Cooled Environment
Your Segway batteries will perform best in an environment that is warm and free from moisture. We recommend keeping your Segway charging in an area where the temperature is at least 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Keeping your Segway batteries dry is essential to the battery life of your Segway. Submerging the Segway's batteries or exposing the ports to water could lead to ruining your Segway's batteries and needing to replace them. If you want to clean the base of your Segway, avoid hoses/pressure washers and opt for a damp or dry cloth.
3. Keep your Segway’s charging port Closed
Ensure that the Segway's charging port is clear of any dirt, water, or debris. Over time, debris can collect in the charging port, preventing the Segway from charging efficiently. The best way to avoid build up is to keep the charging port closed at all times. *Do not plug in the Segway when the charging port is wet.
If you're experiencing issues with your Segway battery, it's important to have it checked and serviced by a professional. Attempting to repair the battery yourself can be dangerous and could potentially cause further damage to your Segway. At the first sign of any issues, we recommend contacting a Segway technician.
Enjoy the Ride!
By following these simple tips, you can help prolong the life of your Segway batteries and ensure that your Segway continues to operate at its best for years to come!
